Hear from families

Courtney, Parent

Katie has been an outstanding speech pathologist for our son. Her expertise, passion, and individualized approach have helped him make great strides in his speech and language development. She creates a warm and encouraging environment that made our son comfortable and excited to meet with her each week. Her clear communication and learning materials helped us support our son’s practice at home in between sessions. We highly recommend working with Katie!

Kevin, Parent

Katie was so good with our daughter, clearly knew the best way to go about helping her with R sounds, and did it through games/activities. She also gave us targeted homework to work on during the week which was really helpful. Our daughter looked forward to Katie coming over and was actively sad when she graduated from speech therapy. Katie was professional and kind and I would 10/10 recommend her to other families looking for a speech therapist.

Former School-Based Colleague and Fellow Speech-Language Pathologist

Katie is extremely knowledgeable, always up-to-date on evidence-based practices, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure her clients receive the best possible speech services. She is a huge expert in our field, and I am so lucky to have her as a friend and mentor! I cannot recommend her enough for speech services.

 FAQs

  • While there are sounds expected by age, children’s speech is also impacted by the type and number of sound errors. Some sound errors are developmental, and others are not likely to improve without intervention. Certain errors have a greater impact on how well your child is understood. In general, children have acquired most sounds by the end of ages 4-5, and all speech sounds by the end of age 6. I’d be happy to talk through your child’s specific skills over a free consult.

  • Some children naturally outgrow certain sound errors, but many do not, especially if the errors are beyond what’s typical for their age or non-developmental. A “wait-and-see” approach is not recommended because speech difficulties can affect communication now, and patterns may become more ingrained and harder to correct later on. Early support can help your child be better understood by family, teachers, and friends, reduce frustration, and develop speech skills that are effortless. I can help you determine whether your child’s errors are developmentally typical and whether intervention would be beneficial.

  • I completely understand how packed schedules can be! Speech therapy can feel like another commitment, but waiting until things “calm down” often means delaying progress that could be easier to achieve now. I work with families to find a schedule that fits your life, and I can adjust session frequency or timing season-to-season to accommodate changes in activities. Even short, consistent sessions can make a meaningful difference, and I’ll provide strategies you can use at home between visits to keep progress moving forward.

  • School-based speech has strict eligibility criteria and focuses on skills that impact classroom learning. Private therapy is more flexible and can target specific speech sounds or skills without waiting for educational impact. Even if your child didn’t qualify for school services, private therapy can help them build clarity, confidence, and communication skills at home and in daily life.

  • Every child is different, so there isn’t a single timeline that fits everyone. Some children make noticeable progress in just a few weeks, and I’ve had students who were able to meet their goals to graduate in 2–3 months. Progress depends on factors like your child’s age, the sounds or skills we’re targeting, how often therapy sessions happen, and how much practice happens at home. During therapy, I’ll track your child’s progress closely and share strategies you can use between sessions to help keep your child progressing.

  • I primarily support early communication and speech in toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children. I can also work with older students who have persistent speech sound errors and are self-motivated to improve their speech.

  • I provide therapy on an out-of-network basis (private pay). Payment is collected at the time of service, and if you'd like, I’ll provide a detailed superbill for your records. You can submit this to your insurance plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Even if your plan does not cover services, your payment usually counts toward your deductible, though it’s always best to check your specific plan first. You can also submit your superbill for potential reimbursement for HSA or FSA funds.

Choosing private pay allows you to start therapy right away, no referral or insurance approval is needed, and gives you more flexibility with scheduling and fully individualized sessions.
